Mildred "Millie" Ippolito, 84, of Springfield, formerly of Witt, died on Wednesday, April 10, 2019, at Heritage Health Care Hospice in Springfield.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 15, at Witt Cemetery. Pastor Luanne Stewart will officiate the service. Sutton Funeral Home in Nokomis is assisting the family with arrangements.

Ms. Ippolito was born on November 23, 1934, to Joseph and Dorcas Lapsansky. She had an associate degree in liberal arts from Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield and an associate degree in horticulture and landscape design from Kishwaukee College in Malta. Ms. Ippolito worked for the military and naval department for eleven years and later retired from the State Board of Education. She liked traveling, playing slot machines, watching (and betting on) horse races, reading, and picnics. Her favorite sayings were, "If you give a man a fish he will eat for a day, but if you teach a man to fish he will eat for a lifetime," and "Help others if you can. If you cannot help at least do no harm."

Ms. Ippolito is survived by one daughter, Melody Lyons of Lincoln; four auxiliary children, Sue Nation, Jennifer Walker, Roberta Johnson, and Robert Lovell; and one brother Alvin Lapsansky.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
