Mildred Louise Sales, 84, of Greenville, died on Thursday, July 15, 2021, at 7:05 a.m. at her home.

Funeral services were held Friday, July 23, at Greenville First Christian Church with Pastor Tyson Graber and Darryl Bolen co-officiating. Interment followed at Mt. Auburn Cemetery. Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville assisted the family.

Mrs. Sales was born Sept. 2, 1936, in Lexington, KY, to Walter and Caroline Knight. She married John Harvey Sales on Feb. 4, 1956, and they happily celebrated 65 years together. He survives.

She grew up in Columbus, OH, and graduated from Hamilton High School with the class of 1954. She and her husband’s love story began when he was stationed in Ohio while serving his country in the U.S. Air Force.

In 1957, Mrs. Sales and her husband moved to the St. Louis, MO, area, where she worked at various jobs doing keypunch data entry. It was in 1972 that they moved to Greenville and made the community their permanent home.

She held various jobs in town, including a position in the Greenville College business center for a few years. She also worked for Bennett Roodhouse at Southwest AgriBusiness for several years, as well as Ray and Nancy Holcomb at AG and Business Accounting doing accounting and tax data entry.

Mrs. Sales had a huge heart centered around loving people. Her love for people was rivaled only by her love of her family and faith in Christ. She enjoyed regularly attending her kids’ and grandkids’ sporting events and other recreational activities. She loved to watch football and could be heard yelling at the TV during a game. Comet football, Illinois College and Ohio State were her favorite teams and she wore the team shirts proudly.

She also had a servant's heart and was passionate about her faith. She served at the First Christian Church in the music ministry for the adult and children’s choir, and was an active member of the Kum Double Sunday school class. She was also involved with Women’s Prison Outreach at the Greenville Federal Prison. In her spare time, she also enjoyed staying busy making quilts and working on needle point projects.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Sales is survived by her children, Leah (husband Mike) Sandifer, Jalyn (husband Mike) Huber, both of Greenville, Todd (wife Rhonda Winchell) Sales of Colorado and Holly (husband Larry) Thiems of Sorento; grandchildren, Heather Hoffman, Erik Sandifer, Heidi (Christopher) Byczko, Amy Sales, Kristine Sales, Michelle (Daniel) Copley, Danielle Huber, Brady (Cortney) Huber, Casey Thiems, Cara (Chandler) Bane, JT Thiems, Kristen (Jason) Cole, Nancy (Mikael) Greenlief and Kimberly (Ryan) Heffner; great-grandchildren, Spencer, Kennedy and Abigail Hoffman, Ethan, Andrew and Caleb Sandifer, Cecily and Asha Byczko, Caylin, Tristin, Avery, Logan and Silas Copley, Hunter and Cody Cole, Reese Greenlief and Levi Heffner; three sisters, Eleanor Mapes, Olivia (husband Robert) Stanley and Karen (husband Jeffery) Dodson; her dog, Jack; and granddogs, Gertrude Louise Huber, Groot, Luna and Chloe Huber, Winston and Dobby Hoffman, Bear and Sprout Sales, Boots and Zeus Copley, Jasmine and Bear Cole, Tyson and Dasher Greenlief and Queen B Heffner.
