The Morrisonville/Lincolnwood baseball team picked up their third win of the season on Monday, April 2, as they knocked off Ramsey 12-2 in five innings.
Kyle Bloome got the start on the mound for the Mohawks and loaded the bases in the first inning after allowing a single and hitting two batters with one out. Bloome would settle down though as he got the next two outs.
The Mohawks made sure that Bloome had more than enough run support in the first inning as they plated five runs, three of which came off a Grant Jones homer.
Andrew Skinner led off the inning with a walk, then moved to second on a fly ball by Shawn Goebel. Evan Hopper would single in the next at-bat, scoring Skinner to make it 1-0. After Dade Pitchford reached on an error, allowing Hopper to advance to third after he took second on a passed ball, Sam Herman drove in Hopper with a single through the middle.
Ramsey would get the next out, but Jones put an exclamation point on the inning with his three-run homer, making the score 5-0.
The Rams would turn three hits into two runs as they cut the margin down to three, but Morrisonville countered with a run in the second to increase the lead to 6-2. The Mohawks got the run after Hopper reached on an error, then made it around the bases on a wild pitch and two passed balls.
After a scoreless third inning, Morrisonville made it 9-2 with three runs in the fourth as mistakes continued to plague the Rams. Jhett Walker and Andrew Skinner both reached on errors, followed by a single by Shawn Goebel that loaded the bases.
Ramsey would bring in Hayden Seaton to pitch in relief of starter Koester Cook and the change yielded some positive results after a strikeout and a fly ball yielded the first two outs.
Still, Morrisonville got one run on the pop fly when Walker tagged up and scored, plus another one a batter later when Sam Herman laced a double to center field that plated Skinner. The Mohawks would make it 9-2 three pitches later as Goebel scored on a passed ball for the third run of the inning.
Bloome would walk two batters in the fifth, but got out of trouble quickly with a double play to end the inning.
In the fifth, Morrisonville would send everyone home early as they plated three runs to invoke the mercy rule. Grant Jones walked, then took second on a ground out to first base. Jones would move to third on a passed ball and score when Jhett Walker's ground ball was mishandled by the Ramsey second baseman.
After a strikeout, Issac Ferrill reached on another Ramsey error and Evan Hopper singled to load the bases. Dade Pitchford was hit by a pitch to score Walker from third and the game ended one pitch later as Spencer O'Malley came in to face Sam Herman and his first pitch slipped past the catcher, allowing Ferrill to score.
Both Herman and Hopper would have two hits on the night as both teams finished the game with six hits.
Bloome picked up the complete game win, allowing two runs on six hits, with five strikeouts.
Morrisonville's next game will be on Thursday, April 4, at 4:30 p.m. at Auburn. The Mohawks will take on Warrensburg-Latham on Saturday, April 6, at 11 a.m. on the Cardinals' home field.
