Morrisonville Falls To Rams, Lions

Posted

The Morrisonville Mohawks welcomed Shelbyville and Decatur Lutheran to town on March 21 and 22, with the visitors taking the win in each game.

On Thursday, March 21, the Mohawks led 2-1 after two innings, but a seven-run third helped Shelbyville to a 10-3 win.

Dade Pitchford singled home Andrew Skinner in the first inning to give the Mohawks the early lead, but the Rams tied things up in the top of the second. In Morrisonville's half of the inning, Jhadyn Walker doubled down the left field line and moved to third with a ground out by Cole Sidwell. Walker would come around to score Morrisonville's second run on a wild pitch as the Mohawks held a 2-1 lead.

Things would go south in the third inning though as Shelbyville touched up Morrisonville starter Evan Hopper for five hits and seven runs in the inning. The Rams would get two more runs in the top of the fifth off reliever Braxton Schmedeke as the Mohawks found themselves down 10-2 after five.

Morrisonville would get one back in the bottom of the sixth with a leadoff triple from Evan Hopper, who scored on a ground out by Dade Pitchford, but couldn't cut further into the Rams' lead as Shelbyville closed out the 10-3 victory.

Decatur Lutheran

On Friday, March 22, the Mohawks would be behind from the start as they fell to Decatur Lutheran 12-1 in five innings.

Andrew Skinner would score the Mohawks' lone run after he doubled to lead off the third inning and scored after stealing third and coming home on a ground out by Evan Hopper. By that point, Decatur Lutheran already led 10-1 and the Lions would keep the mercy rule in effect with solo runs in the fourth and fifth.

Kyle Bloome took the loss on the mound with eight runs on five hits and four walks, with two strike outs on the day. Michael Jones pitched the final two and two-thirds innings, striking out three, walking one and giving up four runs on six hits.

The Mohawks will play at Macon Meridian on Monday, March 25, followed by a road trip to Edinburg on Tuesday, March 26.
