MSM Conference Foes Fall To Lincolnwood

The Lincolnwood High School softball team had a busy week with six games in six days starting on Monday, May 10. Fortunately for the Lancers, all six were productive as they improved to 11-2 on the year with their sixth win in a row.

The week ended with four games, two of which came against county foes Hillsboro and Nokomis, while two others came in blowouts against MSM Conference foes.

On Wednesday, Lincolnwood dispatched their future teammates, Morrisonville, in five innings by a 14-4 final score.

The two teams were deadlocked until the third inning, when Lincolnwood broke out with nine runs in the top of the inning. Morrisonville answered with one run in the bottom of the third, the Lancers came up with three more runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth to grab a 14-1 advantage.

Morrisonville would do their best to extend the game, but could only manage three runs in the bottom of the fifth as the contest ended by the 10-run rule.

Taryn Millburg earned the win on the mound, allowing four runs (one earned) on four hits with four strikeouts. Whitney Lipe took the loss for Morrisonville, allowing 12 runs (seven earned) on nine hits and three walks in three innings.

Millburg was also one of three players with multiple hits for Lincolnwood as she went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs. Desi Pitchford and Cassie Krager also had a pair of hits and two runs scored for the Lancers, while Caitlyn Clarke led Morrisonville with a 2-for-3 day with two doubles.

On Friday, May 14, the Lancers hosted Calvary and knocked off the Saints 21-2 in four innings.

Runs would come early and often with Lincolnwood leading 5-0 after one, 12-1 after two and 21-2 after three.

The Lancer pitching trio of Paige Rainwater, Taryn Millburg and Marisa Webb allowed just three hits and one earned run, with Webb striking out three batters in the fourth to end the game early.

Offensively, Lincolnwood only outhit the Saints 7-4, but earned 17 walks in the game. Cassie Krager, Brittany Slightom and Sophie Rainwater had two hits apiece in the win, with Paige Rainwater picking up the other base hit.
