Nancy Anne (Lyskawa) Munsell, 71 of Witt, formerly of Anna, died Friday, Nov. 3, 2023, at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. She had been a resident of Montgomery Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Taylor Springs for the past several years.
Funeral services are pending at this time. Inurnment will be in the Anna Cemetery. Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Anna is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Munsell was born May 8, 1952, in Chicago, the daughter of Frank and Annalee (Montgomery) Lyskawa. She was raised by her maternal grandparents William and Leeta Montgomery after the death of her father in March of 1954. Her mother passed away when she was 10. She attended school in Anna and graduated from Southern Illinois University of Carbondale with a bachelor of science in elementary education in 1974. She went on to obtain a master’s degree in education administration and elementary education in 2001. She taught for 35 years at Witt Elementary School in Witt, and regarded all of her students as her own children–as well as her Maltese puppies that will be laid to rest with her.
She married Travis Allen Munsell in Warner Robbins, GA, on July 13, 1974. They later divorced.
Mrs. Munsell is survived by her “daughter figure,” Cindy Abrams Stokes; cousins, Debbie Mattheis of Anna and Jim Hale of Atlanta, GA; other relatives and many friends.
