Nellie Lee (Moroney) Mackey, 86, of Hillsboro, died Monday, Oct. 21, 2019, at Montgomery County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Visitation will be held Friday, Oct. 25, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.  at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Hillsboro. A Funeral Mass will follow at 12 p.m. at athe church with the Rev. Father Dan Willenborg officiating. Burial will be held in St. Agnes Catholic Cemetery in Hillsboro.

Mrs. Mackey was born May 24, 1933, in Montgomery County near Coffeen, to Paul and Wilda (Hill) Maroney. 

A 1950 graduate of Fillmore High School, she received her teacher's certificate from Eastern in 1952, graduated from SIUE in 1973 in elementary education and received her master's degree in 1980, in early childhood development.

She taught school in Moweaqua, Irving Grade School and at Beckemeyer Grade School in Hillsboro. She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Hillsboro.

She is survived by two sons, Paul Mackey of Palm Springs, CA, and Kelly (Pam) Mackey of Hillsboro; three daughters, Terri (Norman Compton) Mackey of Hillsboro, Robin (Steve) May of Litchfield and Shannon (Tory) Daniels of Hillsboro; seven grandchildren, Kelli Duncan, Adam Mackey, Luke Mackey, Karli Mackey, Ashli Alexander, Taylor Daniels and Tad Daniels; four great-grandchildren, James Duncan, George Duncan, Rose Duncan and Ansley Alexander; and one sister, Shirley Davis of Savoy.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
