Nelvin Sloman, 90, of Springfield, died on Saturday, Dec. 12, 2020, at 10:55 p.m. at his home.

Graveside funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Dec. 19, beginning at 12 p.m. at Morrisonville Cemetery with pastors David Poeschel and Dan Edwards co-officiating. Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville is assisting the family.

Mr. Sloman was born Oct. 8, 1930, in Ramsey, to William and Lois (Wilson) Sloman. He married Ida D. Garrett on June 24, 1950, at Fairview Methodist Church, southeast of Morrisonville, and she preceded him in death on March 8, 2018.

He graduated from Morrisonville High School with the class of 1948, and later attended Springfield Junior College. During his career, he worked as a farmer and Pioneer seed representative for over 30 years. 

Mr. Sloman was a member of Zenobia Baptist Church and also attended Bethel Baptist Church in Sharpsburg. He was a charter member of the Christian County Genealogical Society and past member of the Christian County Historical Society.

He is survived by his sons, Dennis (Nancy) Sloman, Thomas (Patti) Sloman and David (Janet) Sloman; grandchildren, Tyler (Samantha) Sloman, Amanda (Chad) Patton, Chad (Elizabeth) Sloman, Amy (Jason) Stiff, Garrett (Danielle) Sloman and Matthew (Brenda) Sloman; great-grandchildren, Alex, Madalyn, Ellie, Aidan, Elisa, Brenna, Carson, Schaeffer, Charlotte and Beckett Sloman, Grant and Griffin Patton and Christina and Lauren Jo Stiff; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Sloman was preceded in death by his parents; and granddaughter, Chrissy Sloman.
