You may be hot, you may be tired, but at least you'll look sharp after the 28th annual 4th of July Biathlon and 5K run on Tuesday, July 4, sponsored by the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce.
Runners or cyclists (or both if the biathlon is more your speed) who turn in their entry before June 18 will receive a red dri-fit race shirt with the race logo on it.
The early bird entry fee is $25 for the 5K run, $35 for the individual biathlon or $55 for a two-person team biathlon entry before June 18. The price increases by $10 in each category after June 18, but registrants after this date are not guaranteed a shirt.
In the past, the run has been slightly longer, five miles instead of the more familiar 3.1 mile version that will be held in 2017. The bike portion of the biathlon has also been shortened, going from 20 miles in the past to 15 miles.
The course though will be the same as the races begin and end at the Montgomery County Courthouse, with a trek down the North Road and back the circuit once again.
Packet pickup and race day registration will begin at 6:30 a.m. on the courthouse lawn, with the race beginning at 7:45 a.m. Participants in the biathlon are encouraged to arrive early to set up their bicycles in the transition area.
Awards will be handed out to the top three overall finishers in both the men's and women's divisions, along with the top three in each age group. There will also be awards for the top male biathlon team, top female biathlon team and the top mixed biathlon team.
Registration forms are available at the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce office at City Hall and at The Journal-News in Hillsboro. Online registration is also available at https://register.chronotrack.com/r/29993.
