Nokomis Park District was awarded a $350,000 grant for the Memorial Park Pool project on Friday, Jan. 17.
The park district was one of 85 recipients to receive a grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) to be used for park projects throughout the state.
"Investments in local park projects are good for families and recreation enthusiasts, helping them enjoy outdoor activities and making Illinois communities better places to live and work," said Governor JB Pritzker, when announcing the grant recipients. "Parks projects also boost local economic development efforts and spur additional investment throughout the state."
These grants are funded through the state's Open Land Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) program and are administered by the IDNR. The program can provide up to one-half of a project's funds.
The open land program has invested $403.2 million in 1,729 state park projects since its inception in 1987. The program receives dedicated funding from a percentage of the state's real estate tax transfer.
