Nokomis Paints The Sky Pink In October

Posted

In honor of breast cancer awareness month in October, the Nokomis High School Student Council held its annual “Paint the Sky Pink” night on Friday evening, Oct. 16.

The group typically hosts a pink football game in October, but with football season being postponed until spring, they held the balloon launch with a special ceremony. Breast cancer survivor Randi Castle of Pana shared her inspiring story that evening. In addition to selling biodegradable pink balloons, the Student Council also sold pink apparel as a fundraiser for the Montgomery County Breast Cancer Support Group.

Students and staff at the school continue to wear pink on Fridays in October to raise awareness for breast cancer.

Prior to the ceremony, members of the Nokomis Athletic Club held the Arrowhead Open raffle drawings. Prize winners include Marla Cole, who won travel vouchers; JoAnn and Lou Stauder, who won St. Louis Cardinals vouchers; Tammy Petty, who won a Roomba; Amanda Lamore, who won a $200 Scheels gift card; and Carl Fesser and Bruce Clavin, who won $100 cash.
