After three straight wins, the Nokomis volleyball team tasted defeat on Thursday, Oct. 7, in a close 25-18, 25-23 match with North Mac in Nokomis.
North Mac would lead by as many as six in the early going, but Nokomis rallied to tie the game at 12-12. The Panthers would retake the lead though and built up another six point lead, 20-14, before coming away with the 25-18 win.
Nokomis led for much of the early going, but North Mac put together a short run to break a 9-9 tie and take a four-point lead. The Panthers led by as many as six, 19-13 and 20-14, but Nokomis refused to go away and battled back from a 24-19 deficit to score four straight points before North Mac finished off the two-point win with a kill.
Emily Cress, Natalie Engelman and Presley Lamb did their best to keep Nokomis in the game defensively, combining for 30 digs. Cress had a team-high 11 in the contest, while Engelman and Lamb had 10 and nine respectively. Closer to the net, Audrey Sabol and Skylar Stewart had three blocks each.
On the service line, Engelman had six points, followed by Addison Dangbar with five and Skylar Stewart with three.
On the attack, Hailey Engelman led the team in kills (5) and assists (6), while Dangbar (2), Rean Ward (2) and Sabol (1) also had kills.
Nokomis will be on the road this Tuesday, Oct. 12, as they take on Edinburg-South Fork in a MSM Conference match.
