Oma L. Hayes, 67, of Bunker Hill, died in his sleep at  4:05 a.m. on Thursday, April 16, 2020, at University Care Center in Edwardsville.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Mr. Hayes was cremated per his wishes.

Mr. Hayes was born on June 9, 1952, in Alton, to Oma Leonard Hayes and Freda Maxine Bigham. He married Rebecca A. (Deem) Baiter Hayes on June 16, 2000, in Edwardsville. Mr. Hayes was a laborer for Aladdin Steel.

He loved spring, summer and being outdoors. In his spare time, Mr. Hayes enjoyed fishing with his friend Mike, taking care of his vegetable garden and mowing the grass. He also loved his dog, Lidia. His family remembers him as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

Mr. Hayes is survived by his wife; children, Stacy (Dave) Whitt of Woodburn and Kyle (Stacey) Hayes of Sorento; step-daughter, Laurie (Jeff) Springer of Bethalto; grandchildren, Reiley, Reagan, Cyrus, Rheena, Raquel, Malachi and Raziah Whitt, Brent (Jessie) Springer, Brittany (Nick) Wooley, Breann (fiance Stephen Warnick) Springer and Kirstyn Brooker; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Jeff Hayes of Bunker Hill and Roger (Bonnie) Hayes of Bethalto; and sister, Tamara (Jim) Wells of East Alton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; great-granddaughter, Scarlett Wooley; and his beloved dog, Sasha.
