Orren Wayne Pierce, 97, of Litchfield, died on Sunday, June 17, 2018, at 2:15 p.m. at Heritage Health Therapy and Senior Care in Litchfield.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 20, at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield at 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Gillespie City Cemetery in Gillespie.

Born on July 17, 1920, in Gladmir, Saskatchewan, to Orren and Anna Mae (Tofflemire) Pierce, Mr. Pierce was a veteran of the United States Army, where he served as a military police officer during World War II. On March 19, 1960, he married Florence Leatherby in Litchfield, and she survives.

After his time in the Army, he worked as a lift truck driver and checker for 20 years at John-Mansville Corp. in Granite City, before becoming a machine operator at Fiat Allis, where he retired in 1983 after 13 years with the company.

Mr. Pierce was a member of the American Legion, Moose Lodge and a board member in Musician AFM since 1957. In addition to his love of music, he also enjoyed camping.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Pierce is survived by a step-daughter-in-law, Elsie (Nicholas Lyle) Hayes of Bethalto; niece Barbara Watson of Wynne, AR; nephew Jerome Traver of Williamsburg, VA; several nieces and nephews, six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lewis Pierce; five sisters, Jean Murphy, Alice Traver, Ruth Croy, Bethel Wilcox and Bertha and one niece, Verla West.
