P. June Strahl, 98, of Greenville went to be with the Lord on Nov.18, 2021.

Visitation will be held at the Greenville Free Methodist Church beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, with the funeral service at 11 a.m. and interment to follow in Mt. Auburn Cemetery. Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Strahl was born Feb. 7, 1923, in Lansing, MI, the second born of identical twins to the Rev. Roy V. and H. Louise (McDonald) Starr.

June was raised in Lansing as the daughter of a Church of the Nazarene pastor. She graduated from Olivet College in Kankakee in 1946 and married John M. Strahl on June 14, 1947, and he preceded her in death in 2003 after 56 years of marriage.

She began a teaching and coaching career at Olivet College and Taylor University in Upland, IN. The Strahls moved to Greenville in 1950 where he became athletic director and she taught physical education and coached for ten years at Greenville College. She finished her teaching career as a P.E. teacher and dean of students for 17 years at Hillsboro High School, retiring in 1987.

She was always interested in studying the Bible and taught and led a neighborhood Bible study group for 22 years after her retirement. She loved theology and wrote essays about scripture for her bible study group. She was a member of the Greenville Free Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School for a number of years. She was a member of the Greenville College Women’s Club and the Bond County Retired Teachers Association. She loved sports of any kind and golfed until age 80. She and her husband enjoyed traveling, camping in their younger years and spending their later winters in an RV in San Antonio, TX.

Mrs. Strahl dearly loved her family and is survived by three children, Jill L. (Scott) Mohnkern, Judith L. (Richard) Keffer, and John M. (Deanna) Strahl, Jr; eight grandchildren, Emily Mohnkern, Laura Keffer Berlin (Brady), Timothy Mohnkern (Rachel), Rebecca Keffer Kruse (Stephen), John Strahl lll (Brooke), Brian Keffer (Michelle), Wesley Strahl (Louisa), and Taryn Strahl; and ten great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Oliver Berlin, Elena June Kruse, Branch Mohnkern, Miles Kruse, Cecilia Mohnkern, Haley Keffer, twins Brayden and Tessa Kruse and Avery Strahl.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her twin sister, T. Jane (Starr) Arnold; and her older sister, Thelma E. (Starr) D’Arcy.
