The Hillsboro High School volleyball team found out what it was like to start their season with one of their toughest tests on Tuesday, Aug. 27, as they hosted perennial conference favorite Pana.
The Toppers would come out firing, using a strong defensive game at the net to take a 25-20 victory over the Panthers.
Pana would regroup though, taking the next two games 25-7, 25-12 to secure the South Central Conference victory.
Kaci Papin and Emma Miller would be a big part of that defensive presence at the net for Hillsboro, contributing four and three blocks respectively. Kayli Ward, Emily Reynolds and Chloe Beck also had a stuff apiece in the loss.
Further back, Ally Devore led the team in digs with 18, while Haley Major finished with six digs and Reagan DeVashier and Jordan Jacobs had five each.
Offensively, Jacobs led the team in assists with six, while Ward and Beck had three kills each. Papin and Reynolds also had a pair of kills for the Toppers.
Ward would lead the serving as well, posting seven points. Reynolds added six points, while Major had five.
Hillsboro hits the road for their next two games as they take on Carlyle on Tuesday, Sept. 3, followed by a date with Litchfield on Thursday, Sept. 5.
