The Litchfield wrestling team traveled to Olney for the Strength of the South duals on Saturday, Jan. 25, and flexed a little muscle on their opponents.
In their four matches in Olney, the Panthers went 4-0, despite giving up 18 to 30 points per match due to forfeits.
Herrin would be up first for the Panthers, with Litchfield scoring a 46-24 victory over the Tigers. Litchfield would win four of the five contested matches against Herrin, with Brady Davidson (120), Aaron Roach (132) and Dylan Maxwell (182) all winning by fall. Carter Powell would be the other contested victory, beating Ruben Pullum by major decision at 126 pounds.
Litchfield would also get forfeit wins from Alex Powell (106), Ashtin Carver (113), Will Carlile (138) and Jefferson Thomas (220), while forfeiting three weight classes themselves, with two double forfeits.
The host Tigers of Olney were the second match of the day and Litchfield picked up a six point victory, 42-36. Of Olney's 36 points, 30 came by forfeit, with Litchfield benefitting from four forfeits to Alex Powell (106), Ashtin Carver (113), Brady Davidson (120) and Dylan Maxwell (182).
The Panthers would again go 4-1 in contested matches, with 138-pounder Will Carlile earning a victory by fall. Carter Powell would pick up his second major decision victory at 126 pounds, while Jefferson Thomas (220) and Aaron Roach (132) would both win by decision.
The wins continued to pile up for the Panthers in their match with Mt. Vernon, their closest of the day. Going 4-2 in contested matches, Litchfield would score a 39-36 victory over the Rams to improve to 3-0 in Olney.
Brothers Alex and Carter Powell would collect two wins by fall at 106 and 126 pounds, while Jefferson Thomas also got a pin at 220. Will Carlile would add in a decision victory at 138 pounds as well.
The Rams would give up forfeits to Ashtin Carver (113), Seth Kenter (152) and Dylan Maxwell (182), with Litchfield forfeiting four classes, plus one double forfeit.
Litchfield would be busiest in their final match of the day, a 48-34 win over Robinson. The Panthers and Maroons would go head-to-head in eight matches, with Litchfield getting the victory in seven.
All seven wins would come by fall, including one by Seth Kenter at 152 pounds, his first contested victory of the day. Dylan Maxwell (182), Jefferson Thomas (220), Alex Powell (106), Carter Powell (126), Aaron Roach (132) and Will Carlile (138) would also collect pins against Robinson.
The six other matches would be forfeited, with Ashtin Carver getting a free six points from Robinson, while 30 of the Maroons 34 points came on free passes.
After a road match in Jerseyville on Thursday, Jan. 30, against the Panthers and East Alton-Wood River, Litchfield will prepare for the Rich Lovellette Invitational on their home mats. Action starts at Simmons Gym at 6 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 31, and continues at 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 1.

The Litchfield wrestling team was in Highland on Thursday, Jan. 16, to face the host Bulldogs and Vandalia.
In the match with Highland, the Bulldogs would score a 48-30 victory, with 11 of the matches decided by forfeit. Both teams would forfeit 170 pounds, with Litchfield collecting wins from Dylan Maxwell (182), Carter Powell (126), Aaron Roach (132) and Ashtin Carver (113). Highland would score forfeit wins at 138, 145, 160, 195, 220 and 285.
In the contested matches, Alex Powell scored a win for Litchfield with a pin of Gage Pogue at 106 pounds, while Tanner Schranz and Trevor Bowman picked up a pair of wins for Highland.
In the match with Vandalia, who is not only a conference powerhouse, but a state one as well, the Vandals defeated the Panthers 64-4.
Carter Powell picked up his second win of the night at 126 pounds, beating Matthew Hobler by major decision.
On Friday, at 6 p.m., the opening rounds of the Rich Lovellette Invitational kick off, with action continuing at Litchfield High School the following morning at 9 a.m.
