Panthers Take Third At Carlinville

The Litchfield girls cross country team showed that they'll be tough again this year as they opened up their season on Wednesday, Sept. 4, at the Macoupin County Fairgrounds in Carlinville.

The Lady Panthers would finish third in the eight-team Carlinville Early Meet, with 89 points. Only Roxana (48) and Rochester (77) would finish better than Litchfield.

Caroline Quarton would have Litchfield's best finish with a 21:56.64, good enough for 12th overall. Quarton would be one of four Litchfield runners to finish in the top 21, while all five scoring runners finished in the top 30.

Delanie Ulrich and Myka Fenton would finish 17th and 18th respectively, clocking in at 22:41.83 and 22:47.67 respectively. Kylee Eiting would narrowly miss a spot in the top 20, finishing 21st with a time of 23:04.08. Karly Kruse would finish 28th overall with Litchfield's final scoring time, running a 23:56.58.

In addition to the five scoring runners, four other Panthers also hit the course in Carlinville. Liz Dawson and Lauren Thompson would finish 47th and 48th with times of 25:59.89 and 26:02.24, while Carson Lemon took 52nd with a time of 26:14.39. Anna Baugher would round out the field for the Panthers with a time of 29:06.55, good for 72nd place.

Litchfield will be in Petersburg on Saturday, Sept. 14, for their next race, followed by a trip to Edwardsville on Sept. 21.

Boys Cross Country

The Litchfield boys cross country team finished just six points out of second in their first meet of the season on Wednesday, Sept. 4, at the Carlinville Early Meet at the Macoupin County Fairgrounds.

The Panthers would pick up 87 points in the nine-team, 101 runner event, just six behind the host school for the runner-up spot. Rochester would be the winner of the event, placing six runners in the top 12.

A new face to the team would lead the way for Litchfield as Brady Bishop finished eighth overall. Bishop, who previously played golf at LHS, ran a 17:59.21 in his varsity cross country debut.

Will Carlile and Eithan Rigsbey would back Bishop with times of 18:24.67 and 18:32.14, good enough for 14th and 15th overall, while Kevin Pollard just missed the top 20, finishing 22nd with a time of 19:07.39. Brayden Davis would contribute the fifth scoring time with a 19:31.92 for a 31st place finish.

In addition to the top five, nine other runners also hit the course for Litchfield on Wednesday. Tucker Lemon, who participates via the co-op with Lincolnwood, placed 36th with a time of 19:46.02, while Brandon Malloy was 65th with a time of 21:44.49.

Sam Horn was 70th with a 22:30.24, Alex DeLaCruz was 72nd with a 22:46.86 and Jordan Stockamp was 78th with a time of 23:18.42. Kelly Ilo finished 82nd with a time of 23:40.95, while Colton Wall was 86th with a time of 25:34.83. Owen Baugher and Peyton Baugher closed out the LHS lineup with times of 27:33.45 and 29:19.11 and finishes of 95th and 97th respectively.

For their next meet, the Litchfield boys and girls will make the trip to Petersburg on Saturday, Sept. 14, for the PORTA Invitational.
