Patrick "Patty" Dale Whalen, 90, of Morrisonville, died Friday, Nov. 15, 2019, at Life's Journey Senior Living in Taylorville.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 20, at Perfetti-Assalley Funeral Home in Morrisonville. The visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4 p.m. and will conclude at 7 p.m.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, Nov. 21, at St. Maurice Catholic Church in Morrisonville with the Very Rev. Albert Allen, V.F. celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Maurice Catholic Cemetery in Morrisonville.

Mr. Whalen was born Nov. 19, 1928, in Farmersville, the son of Patrick Leo and Ella Josephine (Marten) Whalen. He married Patricia Jean Vota on Feb. 18, 1954, at St. Maurice Catholic Church in Morrisonville, and she survives.

A 1946 graduate of Morrisonville High School, he was an excellent multi-sport athlete. He was a lifelong farmer, but always made time to give back to his community.

He was a longtime member of St. Maurice Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council #1151, and he spent many years coaching little league baseball. He also enjoyed bowling, playing baseball, and golf, making five holes-in-one over the years.

In addition to his wife of over 65 years, he is survived by his children, Joseph (wife Dianne) Whalen of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, Marcia Nicklas of Springfield, Patrick "Andy" (wife Connie Whalen) of Morrisonville and Thomas (wife Jane) Whalen of Chatham; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Mormino of Taylorville; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Leo, Bill and Clyde Whalen: and sisters, Sr. Mary Patrick, OSF, Mildred DeFeo, Luella Eickhoff and Marjorie Mormino.

Memorials may be made to Morrisonville Baseball, 301 School Street, Morrisonville, IL 62546. Donations of food may be brought to the Morrisonville Knights of Columbus Hall.
