Paul W. Houser, Sr., 83, of Hillsboro, formerly of Witt, died at 2:32 a.m. on Friday, April 19, 2019, at his son's residence.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, April 23, at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Funeral services will follow at noon, with Rev. Stefan Munker of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hillsboro officiating. Burial will be at Clear Springs Cemetary in Hillsboro. Military rites will be accorded. 

Mr. Houser was born on Nov. 9, 1935, in Belleville, to Jesse and Betty (Boulerd) Houser. Throughout his lifetime Mr. Houser resided in Taylor Springs, Witt, and Hillsboro. Mr. Houser married Veronica Sue Ondrey, and the two later divorced. He retired from the Hillsboro Glass Factory. Mr. Houser was a veteran and served with the Marines during the Korean War. Mr. Houser was a member of VFW Post 1306 in Hillsboro,  and the National Rifle Association. He loved music, and played guitar in El Pres Band for many years. Mr. Houser loved guns, hunting, shooting at targets, and woodworking. He especially loved being outdoors.

Mr. Houser is survived by children, Paul W. (Robin) Houser Jr. of Hillsboro, Andy (Kay) Houser of Eagerville, Julie (Leroy) Montgomery of Coffeen, Jody (Harry) Jackson of Taylor Springs, and Paulann Egelhoff of Phoenix, AZ; ten grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a brother David (Linda) Houser of New Athens.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Mary Ann Houser; and siblings, Jesse Houser, Carol Houser and Shirley Houser.
