Phyllis Joy (Short) Homa, 86, of Taylor Springs died Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at St. John’s Hospital, surrounded by loved ones.
Private family services will be held. Hough and Sons Funeral Home in Hillsboro is assisting the family.
Mrs. Homa was born Oct. 19, 1937, in Granite City to Elza and Lauretta (Rill) Short. She married Leonard Homa of Taylor Springs on May 21, 1960, in Springfield at St. Peter and Paul Church, and he preceded her in death..
After attending Taylor Springs Grade School and Hillsboro High School, she worked at  Hillsboro and Greenville hospitals and owned Homa Pabst Blue Ribbon Distributing. A lifetime resident of Taylor Springs, as well as a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, she loved playing Bingo and spending time with her family. 
Mrs. Homa is survived by two daughters, Mona (Joe) Wallace and Sally (Mike) McCoy, both of Taylor Springs; a daughter-in-law, Betsy Homa of Hillsboro; a sister, Karen Smith of Taylor Springs; a sister-in-law, Becky Cerkoski of Gillespie; grandchildren, Tyka (Rhys) Fuller of Coffeen, Nick (Meghan) Homa of St. Louis, MO, Clint (Jessica) Evans of Highland, Cory (Katy) Evans of Litchfield, Katie Homa (husband Dylan Richter) of Hillsboro, Aaron McCoy of Williamsport, MD, Cody McCoy (partner Jade Buckley) of Butler, Kim (Bryan) Casad of Taylorville and Brett (Ashley) Wallace of Hillsboro; and many great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Bob Short, and her son, Mike Homa.
