Police Looking For Suspects In Rash Of Vehicle Break-Ins

Police in Hillsboro, Vandalia and Litchfield are investigating a rash of vehicle break-ins that all appear to be connected to a black male in a white Mercedes SUV with Missouri license plates.

According to Hillsboro Police Chief Randy Leetham, a witness observed a group of black males milling around a vehicle in the Fusion Fitness parking lot in Hillsboro at 4:55 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, before smashing a window and taking items from the vehicle.  An investigation later revealed purses and personal items such as cell phones were taken from three vehicles at Fusion and another at DaVita Dialysis in Hillsboro.

As the investigation continued to unfold, Leetham learned that suspects in a vehicle matching the same description took two purses from cars parked at the YMCA in Vandalia, and Litchfield police are investigating a vehicle break-in at Snap Fitness, where the suspect and vehicle were caught on video surveillance.

The suspects were last observed heading north on Interstate 55 in the white Mercedes SUV.
