A police chase that began in Montgomery County Monday afternoon, Nov. 4, ended in Bond County with the driver in custody.

Christopher S. McCartney, 35, of Clinton, MO, was taken into custody by Illinois State Police and the Bond County Sheriff's Department on Route 140 east of Greenville. Formal charges are pending in both Bond and Montgomery counties, according to state police.

The chase began at 1:40 p.m. when deputies from the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office tried to stop a 2003 Ford F-150 pickup truck for suspicious activity and reckless driving in southwest Montgomery County.  The vehicle refused to stop, according to state police, and a pursuit began.

State troopers from District 18 joined the pursuit due to reckless and erratic driving, and chased the truck through Montgomery, Macoupin and Bond County.

The Bond County Sheriff's Department joined the pursuit near Greenville and successfully used spike strips to flatten the tires of the suspect's truck. After continuing through city streets in Greenville, the pickup became disabled on Route 140 east of town where the driver was taken into custody.
