Central A&M showed why they are thought to be one of the top teams in Class 1A on Friday, Sept. 6, as they defeated Nokomis 42-6.
The Raiders ran for 225 yards and threw for 150 more, with a 45-yard punt return for a touchdown for the first score of the game in the mix as well.
The return would come from Jacob Paradee, who had four touchdowns in the game for Central A&M. After the punt return, Paradee would catch a 21-yard pass from Connor Heaton for the game’s second score as the Raiders led 14-0 after one.
Heaton, who had 75 rushing yards on four attempts, scored on a 39-yard run, then connected with Paradee twice more for touchdowns in the second quarter to make it 35-0 at halftime.
Paradee’s fourth score was one of the plays of the game as Heaton tossed a short pass to Connor Hutchins, who lateralled to Paradee, who turned it into a 56-yard touchdown.
The scoring would slow in the second half after Heaton put Central A&M up 42-0 on an 11-yard run, which set the clock in motion from there on out.
Nokomis would get their lone score in the fourth quarter, with Alex Tosetti finding Nolan Ernst on a 13-yard touchdown pass to avoid the shutout.
Tosetti would go 4-of-7 for 18 yards passing, with one touchdown and one interception. Adam Lyons would have one reception for 15 yards, while Jake Johnson and Landon Engelman joined Lyons and Ernst in catching passes.
On the ground, Ryan Janssen ran for 51 yards on 13 carries, with Jake Johnson and Jake Watson rushing for 14 and 11 yards respectively.
Janssen also led the team in tackles, with five solo and three assists. Quentin Jamieson added seven tackles, while Landon Engelman and Connor Overby had six tackles each.
Nokomis will take on Alton Marquette in their home opener next week. The Explorers are 0-2 with a 22-0 loss to Civic Memorial in week one and a 28-10 loss to Breese Mater Dei in week two.
