Ralph A. Schleyhahn, Jr., 91, of Hillsboro, died on Saturday, Dec. 12, 2020, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur.

Private funeral services will be held with the Rev. Curtis Stanbery officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, where military honors will be conducted. Staab Funeral Home in Springfield is assisting the family.

Mr. Schleyhahn was born March 5, 1929, in Gardner Township, to Ralph A. and Ruth (Stroud) Schleyhahn, Sr. He married Kathy Klump on Feb. 18, 1992, and she survives.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Korea and earned three Bronze service stars.

Mr. Schleyhahn went on to work as a new and used car salesman at various car dealerships in Springfield and served as lot manager for Shaner’s Towing in Springfield.

He loved his kids and grandkids, going to casinos, his dog and NASCAR. He was an avid Illini football and basketball fan.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Schleyhahn is survived by his children, Roger (Michelle) Schleyhahn of Springfield, Diane (Tony Snow) Lauterbach, Ruth (Scott) Andrews, both of Staunton, Ralph (Ann) Schleyhahn III of Naples, FL, and Robert (companion Abbigail Butcher) Schleyhahn of Ft. Lewis-McChord, WA; and two grandchildren, Mikel (companion Stormy DuFrain) Andrews of Staunton and Chelsea (fiance Katie May) Andrews of Edwardsville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Loren “Ike”, Paul and Donald “Ozzie” Schleyhahn; and one sister, Betty Schleyhahn.
