Ralph Orlando Calvert, 87, of Fillmore, died on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2019, at 6:35 p.m. at Vandalia Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

A graveside service will be held Friday, Sept. 6, beginning at 10 a.m. at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO, with the Rev. Harry Kirk officiating. A Celebration of Life will follow, beginning at 6 p.m. at Vandalia Moose Lodge Post #1447. Hohlt and File Funeral Home of Vandalia is assisting the family.

Mr. Calvert was born Jan. 17, 1932, to Orlando Benny and Thelma Marie (Haslett) Calvert. He married Debra Ann Carter on Feb. 14, 1996, in Hillsboro, and she survives.

He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War era. During his civilian career, he owned and operated three local restaurants including The Dew Drop Inn, The Donut Hole and The Country Inn. He also managed the Vandalia and Hillsboro country clubs.

Mr. Calvert was a member of the Vandalia Moose Lodge #1447, Crawford-Hale American Legion Post #95 and Vandalia VFW Post #3862.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Marsha (Ken Bertholf) Calvert Glazier of Zephyr Hills, FL, Cathy Calvert Meyer of Rio Rancho, NM, Lisa (Henry) Calvert Austin of Evergreen, CO, and Christy Calvert of Vandalia; son, Kevin (Michael Haffey) Calvert of Spicewood, TX; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Mr. Calvert was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Reavis Calvert and Don Calvert.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Second Chance Animal Rescue in Vandalia.
