Randy Hellmann, 58, of Carlyle, died Saturday, March 13, 2021, at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

Visitation will be held Thursday, March 18, from 4 to 8 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Carlyle. CDC guidelines will be followed, with the wearing of masks and social distancing.  A private Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held. Zieren Funeral Home in Carlyle is assisting the family.

 Mr. Hellmann was born Nov. 5, 1962, in Breese, a son of Beverly Hellmann and the late Daniel Brassel. He married Lisa Vogel in Bartelso on May 10, 1986, and she survives.

He served as the staff representative for the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Council 31. He retired from the Illinois Department of Corrections after 32 years of service. 

He valued quality time with his family the most. They were always together, whether they were fishing on the banks of the lake, or hunting deer or other game in the woods. He loved being outdoors with his family. He was also a talented taxidermist who loved sharing his trophies with family and friends.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Michael Hellmann of Hillsboro; a grandson, Joshua Hellmann; his mother, Beverly Hellmann of Breese; two brothers, Kirk (wife Vicki) Holtmann and Nathan (wife Amy) Holtmann, all of Carlyle; his mother-in-law, Jeanette Vogel of Bartelso; a brother-in-law, Jeff (wife Geralyn) Vogel of Breese; and his aunts and uncles, Garry and Anne Hellmann of Breese, Leroy and Carolyn Hellmann of Texas and Sandy Hellmann of Breese.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a son, Matthew Hellmann on July 4, 2014; his father-in-law, James Vogel; his grandmother, Vernell Hellmann; and an uncle, Gordon Hellmann.
