Ray Allen “AP” Price, 84, of Sorento, died at 9:55 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 29, 2023, at Staunton Health & Rehab Center.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 6, at Perfetti-Assalley Funeral Home, located at 201 S. Main Street in Sorento.  The memorial ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. with Pastor Dennis Day officiating.

Private interment rites will be completed at a later date at Sunnyside Cemetery in Sorento.

Mr. Price was born Jan. 18, 1939, in Muskegon, MI, the son of Kenneth and Abbie (Miller) Price.  He graduated from Hillsboro High School with the Class of 1957 and went to serve his country in the United States Air Force. Upon his honorable discharge, he worked for several years in construction, assisting with the building of Graham Correctional Center in Hillsboro.  Mr. Price went on to work for the State of Illinois Driver’s License Division for several years, before retiring from the Department of Transportation.

Mr. Price married Delores Dorine “Dodie” Cowell on December 29, 1984, in Collinsville.  They enjoyed nearly 39 years of marriage.  Mr. Price was a member of the Sorento Assembly of God, Donnellson Masonic Lodge and East St. Louis Shrine Club.  He enjoyed fishing and deer hunting, and in his youth, he loved riding motorcycles.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Jill Price; stepson, Darin Duane Schweppe; sister, Sally Crubaugh, and brother, Carl Price.

Mr. Price is survived by his wife, Delores Dorine Price of Sorento; son, Todd Price of Hillsboro; daughter-in-law, Mary Helms of SC; foster son, Mike Dwayne (wife, Karen) Morgan of Sorento; grandchildren, Brandy, Heather, Tyler, Clint, Kiry, Kimber, Kassi, Isabella and Mason; several great-grandchildren; and sister, Peggy (husband, Rodney) Woods of Decatur.
