Raymond Kicks Off Holidays With Annual Christmas Mall

Posted

Montgomery County residents will have a chance to do some local holiday shopping during the Raymond Christmas Mall, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30, at the Raymond Knights of Columbus Hall.

Patrons will have the option of purchasing wares from a variety of vendors from throughout Central Illinois. The shopping event features recognizable brands as well as a host of hand-crafted items.

In recognition of Small Business Saturday, several local businesses will host open houses during the event, with drawings, refreshments and sales. As in years past, there will be a variety of soups, sandwiches, drinks and homemade desserts for sale, throughout the day.

Make sure to check out page 7A for a list of businesses participating in this year's open house event.

New this year, the Raymond Independence Day Celebration committee is sponsoring a scavenger hunt. Participants may purchase their cards at the mall for $5 and will be tasked with visiting participating businesses to find a variety of  listed items. The items will be located (not picked up) and validated by the businesses.

Once all items have been located, participants will bring their cards back to the Independence Committee's booth, at the Christmas Mall, to be entered into a drawing to win a 35 in. flat screen television.

Holiday festivities will continue into the evening with a Christmas Tree lighting in downtown Raymond from 5 to 7 p.m. Creekstone Kettle Works will be on-site to help string popcorn with the kids in attendance. There will also be hot cocoa, sandwiches and desserts, and a face painting booth for children. Several local church choirs will be in attendance, singing Christmas carols. Of course, Santa and Mrs. Claus will be in attendance as well.
