Raymond Lavern Miller, 88, of Staunton, died on Sunday, May 19, 2019, at 12:30 p.m. at his residence.

Visitation will be held Friday, May 24, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Mt. Olive. Funeral services will follow, beginning at 11 a.m. at the church with the Rev. Gary Hanover officiating. Burial will take place in Mt. Olive City Cemetery. Becker and Son Funeral Home in Mt. Olive is assisting the family.

Mr. Miller was born June 24, 1930, in Gillespie, to Donald and Edna (Guthals) Miller. He married Mary Ellen Adden on Oct. 9, 1954, at Southside Baptist Church in Litchfield, and she preceded him in death on Dec. 17, 2017.

He graduated from Mt. Olive High School with the class of 1949, and served in the U.S. Army.

During his career, Mr. Miller worked as a pressroom foreman at Philip Hano Company in Mt. Olive and was a farmer.

He was an excellent woodworker and enjoyed gardening, fox hunting and mushroom hunting, but most of all, he loved his family and grandchildren.

Mr. Miller is survived by five sons, Terry (Debra) Miller, David Miller and Charlie (Marcia) Miller, all of Staunton, Donald "Sam" (Ann) Miller of Carlinville and Larry (Kristen) Miller of Festus, MO; three daughters, Janice (John) Kolkovich and Diane (Don) Scroggins, both of Staunton, and Muffin (Steve) Bates of Litchfield; and three brothers, Norman (Elizabeth) Miller and Nelson Miller, both of Mt. Olive, and Paul Miller of Macon, GA.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Marvin "Fuzzy" Miller; and one sister, Ellen Niehaus.

Memorials may be directed to the First Baptist Church in Mt. Olive or the Mt. Olive City Cemetery.
