The Nokomis High school baseball team saw their season come to an end on Wednesday, May 22, with a 5-4 loss to North Clay at the IHSA Class 1A Dietrich Sectional.
The Redskins held a 4-0 lead after four and a half innings, scoring one in the first and three in the third to take the early lead over the Cardinals.
North Clay would cut the Nokomis lead down to one run going into the sixth, then scored twice more in the bottom of the seventh to pick up the win. The Cardinals advance to play Altamont for the sectional title on Saturday, May 25, after the Indians defeated South Central 7-2 in Wednesday's opening game.
The loss ends the Redskins' season with a record of 18 wins and five losses. A full recap of the game will be in The Journal-News on Tuesday, May 28.
This season was Nokomis' sixth straight winning season, with the Redskins winning at least 18 games in each of those six seasons.
