Points were at a premium on Friday, Dec. 6, but at the final horn, it would be the home team, Alton Marquette, who found the bottom of the net just enough to hand Nokomis a 36-30 loss.
The two teams were limited to just 15 points in the first quarter as Marquette found its range from three to take a 9-6 advantage. Carter Sabol had four of the six points, with Alex Tosetti knocking down the other two.
Nokomis' scoring output would dip to four points in the second quarter, with field goals by Seth Johnson and Jake Johnson, but Marquette's offense was half that as they were limited to just two points and limped into halftime with a 11-10 lead.
Both teams would come alive in the third quarter, with both teams scoring more in eight minutes than they did in the previous 16.
Nokomis would feed Carter Sabol, who added eight points to his total and netted all but four of his team's points. Evan Herpstreith and Alex Tosetti would also score two apiece for the Redskins, who still trailed by three after the Explorers put up 14 in the third.
Owen Williams, who had four threes going into the fourth quarter, would hit two more to help sew up the win for Marquette, who outscored Nokomis 11-8 in the fourth for the six point win.
Williams would lead all scorers with 18, two more than Sabol, who added four points in the fourth to finish with 16 overall.
Evan Herpstreith would add four points, ten rebounds and three assists, while Alex Tosetti also finished with four points. Nick Masch, Seth Johnson and Jake Johnson rounded out Nokomis' scoring with two points each as Nokomis fell to 1-5 on the season and 0-1 in the Prairie State Conference.
