Redskins' Second Quarter Surge Proves To Be Too Much For EAWR

A strong second quarter gave Nokomis enough momentum to win big at East Alton-Wood River, 59-24, on Wednesday, Jan. 8.

The Redskins came out flat to begin the game, allowing East Alton-Wood River to take a 4-0 lead, but the visitors would rally and lead 10-7 at the end of the opening eight minutes.

In the second quarter, the Skins would catch fire as they outscored the Oilers 22-6, with senior Alex Tosetti knocking down a pair of threes in the big offensive frame. Tosetti would finish the game with three triples, accounting for nine of his game-high 23 points.

Up 32-13 at the half, Nokomis continued the blitz in the third and fourth quarters, where they outscored the home team 16-6 and 11-5 to walk away with a 35-point win, their sixth in 11 games this season.

In addition to Tosetti, Carter Sabol added 16 points for the Redskins, while Evan Herpstreith finished with six. Jake Johnson would add five points, followed by Nick Mascher with four, Seth Johnson with three and Cooper Bertolino with two.

The victory improved Nokomis’ season record to 6-5 and was their fifth straight victory going into the match-up with Lincolnwood on Jan. 10.
