As the impact of the post-holiday coronavirus surge begins to decrease, the governor removed mitigations from two regions in the state on Monday, including Region 3 which includes Montgomery County.
Tier 3 mitigations had been in place since Nov. 20. Without them, Region 3 returns to Phase 4 of the state plan.
Last week, the Montgomery County Health Department announced three more deaths on Saturday, Jan. 16–making it ten for the week and 38 since the pandemic began. The health department also recorded 173 new confirmed cases during the week of Jan. 10-16 for a positivity rate of 6.6 percent.
In total, as of Monday, Jan. 18, there have been 2,311 confirmed cases of the virus in Montgomery County.
The number of active cases at Graham Correctional Center in Hillsboro continues to decrease, also. As of Monday, Jan. 18, the Illinois Department of Corrections reports 255 active cases among inmates and 21 among staff members.
