The Rev. Abraham Brown, 94, longtime resident of Jacksonville, died on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2020, in Knoxville, TN.

Visitation will be held Saturday, Feb. 29, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Mt. Emory Baptist Church in Jacksonville. Funeral services will follow, beginning at 2 p.m. at the church. Burial will be held in Jacksonville East Cemetery. Buchanan and Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville is assisting the family.

The Rev. Brown was born Dec. 14, 1925, in Fulton, MO, to Charles and Lena (Reese) Brown. He married Helen C. Blue on Jan. 17, 1944, in Jacksonville, and she preceded him in death on June 20, 2013.

He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.

The Rev. Brown was ordained in 1963 and helped serve Mt. Emory Baptist Church in Jacksonville. He was then called to serve at St. James Baptist Church in Hillsboro, where he ministered for nearly 30 years.

In addition to his ministry, he worked for the City of Jacksonville and the State of Illinois.

The Rev. Brown is survived by three daughters, Cheryl (husband the Rev. Jerry) McCleary of Knoxville, TN, Bonnie Kay Fearson of Springfield and Aurelia Reese of Hesperia, CA; ten grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; son, Abe Brown, Jr., whose wife Jackie of College Station, TX, is surviving; and two sisters, Dola Robinson and Ruth Norton.
