The Rev. Rick L. McGee, 62, of Wayne, OK, died Thursday, Jan. 7, 2021.
Visitation was held Monday, Jan. 11, at Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell, OK. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date when hugs and stories of him can be shared.
Mr. McGee was born March 2, 1958, in Hazel Crest, to Earl and Nancy (Bentley) McGee. He married Nancy Linn Krautlarger on June 20, 1981, in Shawnee, and she survives.
The oldest of three sons, he was raised in Sauk Village. He graduated from Bloom High School in Chicago Heights in 1976. He followed his heart and answered the call to serve the Lord. He started school at Olivet Nazarene University in Kankakee before moving to Oklahoma to attend Oklahoma Baptist University. While in school, he met his wife and they were married. The following year, he graduated with a bachelors degree in church music.
While a student, he served in a part-time capacity at Temple Baptist Church in Shawnee. After graduation, he and his wife moved to Lindsay, OK, where he worked with youth and led music at Calvary Baptist Church. From there, it was on to Noble, OK, where he worked with youth at the first Baptist Church. He entered full-time evangelism, founded the Champions for Christ ministry, and his heart for young people afforded him more than nine years in this capacity.
Through his work, he became affiliated with the First Baptist Church in Wayne, OK, and began working there with the youth and music. By 2003, he was called as pastor and he served Wayne and the surrounding communities with his whole heart. He was a wonderful husband, father and “Baba”, as well as a son, brother, uncle and friend. Rest well faithful servant.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Lindy (husband Daniel) Duncan of Maysville, OK, and Amy (husband Shawn) Deatherage of Newcastle, OK; his father, Earl McGee of Purcell, OK; three grandchildren, Cortland, Bentley and Gwen; and many family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother in 2016; and brothers, Robin McGee on Dec. 16, 2020, and Randy McGee on Jan. 8, 2021.
Memorials may be made to the Rick McGee Memorial Fund in c/o the First Baptist Church in Wayne, OK.
