The Rev. Robert Houston Jones, 92, of Litchfield, died on Monday, Oct. 19, 2020, at 2:50 a.m. at his home.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Oct. 22, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. Graveside services will follow, beginning at 12:30 p.m. at Elmwood Cemetery in Litchfield with Rob Nickerson officiating. Due to CDC guidelines, social distancing rules will apply and masks will be required.
Rev. Jones was born Sept. 21, 1928, in Covington, KY, to Robert Houston and Violet Lillian (Dunn) Jones, Sr. He married Sue Covington on June 26, 1951, in Covington, KY, and she survives.
He served as a minister of Christian churches. He was in the pulpit of ministery for 26 years and served as director of development at Johnson Bible College in Knoxville, TN for 15 years.
Rev. Jones went on to serve as chaplain of Knox Area Rescue Ministeries for five years before retiring in 1997. He also taught at Kentontown Grade School, one of the last one room schools in the town.
He enjoyed photography.
In addition to his wife, Rev. Jones is survived by his son, Eric (Crystal) Jones of Knoxville, TN; two daughters, Cheryl (Rob) Nickerson of Litchfield and Melanie Jones Williams of Knoxville, TN; sister, June Hoehn of Cincinnati, OH; 11 grandchildren, Kelly (Daniel) Lawrence, Chelsea (Eric) Bowman, Karen (Mark Beanblossom) Nickerson, Blake Nickerson, Brett (Shelby) Nickerson, Alex, Barret and Carleigh Long, Morgan and Jonah Jones and Addie Jones Davis; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son in infancy, Richard Jones; daughter, Lisa Jones; brother, Ralph Jones; and sister, Joyce Hodge.
