Richard Dean “Dick” Elledge, 85, of Litchfield, died on Friday, Jan. 29, 2021, at Heritage Health: Therapy and Senior Care in Gillespie.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, Feb. 3, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Litchfield Family Funeral Service. Funeral services will follow, beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Cremation rites will follow and burial will be held at a later date.

Mr. Elledge was born Nov. 16, 1935, in Fairbury to William Russell and Anna Pearl (Mitchell) Elledge. He married Marian Hesterberg on Oct. 20, 1957, at Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield, and she survives.

He graduated from Litchfield High School with the class of 1953. He honorably served the Litchfield Police Department from 1969 to 1989. Following his retirement, he served the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office as a court officer from 1989 to 1999.

Mr. Elledge was a founding member of the Litchfield Sportsman Club, Litchfield Park District, and served as a board member and trustee for Edgewood Cemetery. In addition, he was the officer for the police pension board for several years.

Anyone who encountered him was in for a treat with all the stories, knowledge and education that he would share about history and Indian facts. He never left a conversation without instilling a fact that you didn’t know.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Elledge is survived by his sons, Dean (Heidi) Elledge of Tucson, AZ, and Glen (Ruth) Elledge of Springfield, MO; grandchildren, Aaron, Jessica and Zachary Elledge and Rachel (Chad) Niemeier; great-grandchildren, Maddox and Harper Niemeier; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Donald and Clinton “Bud” Elledge.
