Richard L. Jarman, 78, of Litchfield, died Saturday evening, Oct. 19, 2024 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Litchfield Family Funeral Service is assisting the Jarman family.
Mr. Jarman was born on July 28, 1946, to Sylvester and Wilma (Hicks) Jarman in Litchfield. He graduated from Litchfield High School with the class of 1965. Shortly after graduation, he joined the US Army and served his country for four years. While in the army, Mr. Jarman married Shirley A. Wilson in Litchfield on Nov. 21, 1965. She preceded him in death on Nov. 18, 2016.
After his military service, Mr. Jarman worked at the Brown Shoe Company for a short time, and then became a welder for Schien Trucking in Carlinville and later at McHenry Truck Equipment in St. Louis, MO, where he retired.
After retirement, he worked part time at Walmart in Litchfield. Mr. Jarman loved to bowl, usually hitting the lanes four or five times a week. He rolled several 300 games over the years. He and his wife took their camper to Sherwood Forrest Campgrounds in Hillsboro every April and stayed until October. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. Mr. Jarman was a strong family man, and enjoyed being around each and every one of them.
Mr. Jarman is survived by his daughter, Shelley (Tim) Oller of Litchfield; two sons, Mike (Cindy) Jarman of Litchfield and Mark (Ruth) Jarman of Litchfield; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Rosemary Martin of Litchfield, Teresa Hemken of Eagerville and Jolynn Hemken of Donnellson; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Jarman was preceded in death by his parents, Sylvester M. Jarman, Sr. and Wilma M. Jarman; wife, Shirley A. Jarman; brothers, Robert Hicks and Sylvester Hicks, Jr.; and sister, Janet Conner.
