Robert Andrew Veres, 70, of Panama, died at 7:39 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2019, at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 27, from 11 a.m. until the time of ceremony at 1 p.m. at Perfetti-Assalley Funeral Home in Panama, with the Rev. Alan M. Hunter officiating.

Interment will follow at Union Cemetery in Panama.

Mr. Veres was born on Sept. 1, 1948, in Hillsboro, the son of Andy and Norma (Palleva) Veres. He married Lois K. Lohman on May 13, 1972, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Panama, and she survives.

A graduate of Hillsboro High School with the class of 1966, Mr. Veres worked for the Coffeen Power Plant as a maintenance welder for 37 years. He was a union man, and was a current member of Local #148 and Local #1084 in Hillsboro.  

An avid sportsman, he enjoyed fishing and any type of hunting, especially duck hunting. He was a past co-chairman of the Shoal Creek Chapter of Ducks Unlimited.

Mr. Veres is survived by his wife; daughter, Lesley Angela Veres of Coffeen; grandson, Carroll Robert Smith of Coffeen; goddaughter, Jonni Warren of Donnellson and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
