Robert “Bob” W. McGill, 86, of Taylor Springs, died on Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2020, at 8:12 p.m. at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

A memorial graveside service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 23, beginning at 12 p.m. at Oak Grove Cemetery in Hillsboro with the Rev. James Hayes, pastor of St. James Baptist Church in Hillsboro, officiating. Family and friends may gather at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro at 11:30 a.m. to proceed to the cemetery. CDC guidelines will be followed, including social distancing and masks.

Mr. McGill was born Nov. 29, 1934, in Sorento, to Arnold and Alice Ruth (Wall) McGill. He married Grace May Carlock on Nov. 1, 1958, in Taylor Springs, and she preceded him in death on March 28, 1982.

He graduated from Hillsboro High School and went on to work at the Hillsboro Glass Factory for over 30 years.

Mr. McGill was a member of Steel Workers Union Local 4369 in Granite City. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.

During his lifetime, he resided in Panama, Hillsboro and Taylor Springs.

He is survived by his children, Becky (companion Tommy Maxwell) McGill of Taylor Springs, Connie Craig of Port Charlotte, FL, and Paul Compton of Mesa, AZ; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and brother, Darrell McGill of Hillsboro.

In addition to his wife, Mr. McGill was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Robin McGill in infancy and William Compton; and siblings, Arnold McGill, Allen McGill, Ralph McGill, John McGill, Betty Malisia, Burnetta Redfern, Burl Willman, Kenneth Willman, Gerald Willman and Arvada Hanus.
