Robert L. “Bob” Bennett, 92, of Annawan, formerly of Hillsboro, died on Friday, Feb. 10, 2023, at his home in Annawan.

As per his wishes, his body was donated to Anatomical Gift’s Association of Illinois.   Private family memorial services will be held in Missouri.  Stackhouse-Moore Funeral and Cremation Services in Annawan is assisting the family with arrangements. 

Mr. Bennett was born on Sept. 12, 1930, in Onida, SD, the son of Lane and Iva (Olson) Bennett.  He married Elizabeth “Betty” Girten in Geneseo, and she survives.

A graduate of Brandon High School in Brandon, MN, he was drafted into the United States Marine Corp. and served from 1952 to 1954. During his career, he worked for Growmark, retiring as a sales manager in 1994. Over his years with Growmark, he worked at Christian County F.S., Montgomery County F.S. and Henry County F.S.

Mr. Bennett was a member of Wares Grove Church in Butler and VFW Post 7176 in Annawan.  He loved softball, playing on a men’s team until the age of 62.  He had also coached several girls’ softball teams. He had also held many offices in all of his activities.

In addition to his wife, Betty, he is survived by his children, Kandy Hege, Kristy Ross, Gary Bennett and Judy Nelson; grandchildren, Kameron, Kellyanne, Austin, Jennifer, Amanda, Brittney, Craig, Chris, Curt and Catherine; seven great-grandchildren; twin sister, Betty Lou Vandegraff; sister, Mary Lee Marsh; sister-in-law, Linda Bennett and many nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lorrell and Norris Bennett; and sister, LaVon Rapp.
