Roger Allen Sargent, 73, of Ramsey, died Sunday, March 28, 2021, at his home.

Due to the passing of his daughter, graveside services were postponed to Tuesday, April 6, beginning at 1 p.m. at the Hortenstine Family Farm in rural Ramsey with Pastor Larry Daniel officiating. Military rites will be conducted by Anderson-Scroggins Post 460 American Legion in Ramsey. Miller Funeral Home in Ramsey is assisting the family.

Mr. Sargent was born March 16, 1948, in Divernon, the son of Paul Eugene and Edna Earl (Wilson) Sargent. He married Marcia Hortenstine of Ramsey on Jan. 29, 1982, at Waimea Falls, Honolulu, HI, and she survives.

A 1966 graduate of Auburn High School, he joined the United States Navy in January of 1967, retiring as Lieutenant Commander in 1990. After retirement, he continued his service to the Navy with a second career as a port engineer for Bath Iron Works and managing ship overhauls for the Navy. He was a member and former deacon of the Ramsey Christian Church, as well as a member of the Ramsey Golf Course.

He was a tireless and devoted caregiver at home, and an avid golf enthusiast who played regularly with the Ramsey Golf League. He loved music, playing guitar, mowing his beautiful  yard and helping on the Hortenstine family farm.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Holly, Josh, Roger, Jr., Jeff and Dann; grandchildren, Anna, David and Evelyn; sister, Sharon (Gary) Shull; brother, Richard (Joanne) Sargent; sisters-in-law, Dorothy, Linda and Sandy; and numerous nephews and nieces.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Gene, Ken and Deano Sargent.
