Ronald Allen Lounsbury, Jr., 65, of Collinsville, formerly of Litchfield, died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2024, at 6:02 p.m. at his residence.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 23, at noon at the Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. The Rev. Jon Magnuson, pastor of the Beacon Church, will officiate and burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted. Visitation will be held Tuesday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
Mr. Lounsbury was born Aug. 19, 1958 in Litchfield, a son of Ronald Allen and Judith Ann (Simmons) Lounsbury, Sr. He was a graduate of Litchfield Community High School, with the Class of 1977. Mr. Lounsbury was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and served for four years. He was a graduate of the University of Illinois Fire Fighters Program. He started his career with the Litchfield Fire Department in July of 1982 and served until August of 1993. He transferred to the Collinsville Fire Department in August of 1993 and retired from there in September of 2014, with the rank of lieutenant. He was named Collinsville Firefighter of the Year in 1998. In addition to his firefighter title, Mr. Lounsbury was a paramedic, fire investigator and was a certified open water diver.
Mr. Lounsbury enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson, playing pool and hunting. He was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division Association and the International Association of Fire Fighters, Collinsville Local #2625.
Mr. Lounsbury is survived by his son, Adam Lounsbury of Girard; mother, Judy Gage of Litchfield; brother, Scott Lounsbury of Litchfield and sisters, Julie (Stewart) Young of Litchfield, and Tracy (Duane) Murray of Collinsville; and nephews, Stewart Young and Justin Weatherford and niece Jennifer Young.
Preceding Mr. Lounsbury in death are his father; his step-father, Ronald Gage; and grandparents, Allen and Helen Lounsbury and Eva Hansen and Lester Simmons.
The family suggests memorials to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
