Ronald “Ron” L. Schwab, 79, of Litchfield, died on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2020, at 2:48 p.m. at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Visitation will be held Friday, Feb. 28, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Living Stones Church in Litchfield. A Celebration of Life will be conducted Saturday, Feb. 29, beginning at 10 a.m. at the church with Pastor Jay Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Elm Lawn Cemetery in Litchfield. Litchfield Family Funeral Services is assisting the family.

Mr. Schwab was born Nov. 18, 1940, in Litchfield, to John Joseph and Emma (Kuntzmann) Schwab. He married Sharon Sue Niemann on Jan. 20, 1968, at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield, and she survives.

He attended West Point Country School for four years and graduated from Litchfield High School with the class of 1958. He went on to serve in the U.S. Army National Guard of Illinois with the 130th infantry, earning the rank of corporal.

A lifelong farmer, Mr. Schwab tended his family farm in Honey Point Township. He was a member of Living Stones Church in Litchfield.

A family man, Mr. Schwab was the biggest fan of his grandchildren and would cheer them on from the sidelines of any activity they participated in. He enjoyed annual summer trips with his family and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.

His opinions on political matters will be sorely missed by all who were brave enough to listen, and his skills for organization and decorating will never be replaced.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Schwab is survived by his children, Julie Schwab of Brighton, CO, Jennifer (Ben) Lippold of Carlinville and Benjamin (Jenny) Schwab of Litchfield; grandchildren, Kirsten and Bailey Lippold and Tug, Sam and Maggie Schwab; brother, Darrell Lee (Joyce) Schwab of Litchfield; and sisters, Joyce Vedder of Waverly and Carolyn Schwab of Litchfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Gene and Lyndal Schwab; and sisters, Melba Hartke and Maxine Nimmons.

Memorials may be directed to Coats for Kids or the Schwab Farm Scholarship Fund.
