Ronald Louis Smith, 76, formerly of Taylor Springs, died on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. 

Per his request, Mr. Smith will be cremated, and a family service will be held at a later date.Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro is in charge of arrangements. 

 Mr. Smith was born on July 22, 1948, to Louis and Helen (Huffer) Smith in Springfield. He graduated with the class of 1966 from Feitshan High School in Springfield. He was a proud Army veteran who served his country including his tour of duty in Vietnam.

He married Karen Short from Taylor Springs in 1966 in Hillsboro and she survives in Taylor Springs.

Mr. Smith worked at Homa Pabst Distributing, Hillsboro Glass for several years and owned and operated Smith Electric. He spent his last 21 years at Avenues Nursing Home in Litchfield and he leaves the wonderful staff who so lovingly and faithfully cared for him.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Smith is also survived by sons Chad (Kim) Smith of Donnellson  and Richard (Karla) Smith of Hillsboro; sister, Randi Church of Valley Lee, MD; grandchildren, Spencer Smith, Hobie Smith, Callie Smith, Jake Smith, Josie (Smith) Otto, Jared Smith, Jordan Zerrusen, Cole Zerrusen and Izac Zerrusen; six great-grandchildren, Fisher, Aubrey, Haven, Elise, Asher and Atlas; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Helen; father and mother-in-law, Elza and Lauretta Short; his brothers-in-law, Bob Short and Bob Church; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Lenny and Phyllis Homa; and his nephew, Mike Homa.
