Rosalia C. Doolen, 95, died Friday, Aug. 14, 2020, at 6:03 p.m. at Riverside Rehabilitation and Healthcare in Alton.
Visitation was held Wednesday, Aug. 19, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. Burial followed in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
Mrs. Doolen was born April 22, 1925, in Edwardsville, the daughter of Frank and Catherine (Wildhaber) Merkel. She married Samuel F. Doolen on Sept. 26, 1975, in Wood River, and he preceded her in death.
She was a former member of St. Kevin’s Catholic Church in East Alton, where she was a member of the Altar Society, as well as a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church in Wood River. She sold Avon.
Mrs. Doolen is survived by a daughter, Carol Greear of Wood River; a son, Dennis Kuhn of Sorento; three stepdaughters, Jacque (Steve) Sims, Nancie (Tom) Dover and Donna Meredith; step-daughter-in-law, Virginia Doolen; several grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Brant; son-in-law, Walter Brant; two step-daughters, Judy Kuethe and Janet Doty; stepson, Dennis Doolen; daughter-in-law, Inez Kuhn; one sister, Helen Hess; brother-in-law, Earl Hess; three brothers, Clarence Merkel, Frank Merkel, Jr. and an infant brother; and a sister-in-law, Burdel Merkel.
Memorials may be made to Masses or Holy Angels.
