Rubye G. Shipman, 94, of Hillsboro, died Thursday, June 14, 2018, at 11:25 a.m. at Montgomery Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Taylor Springs.

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 18, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Free Methodist Church in Hillsboro. 

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 19, at 10 a.m. at the church, with the Rev. Randy Sands, pastor of the Free Methodist Church in Hillsboro, officiating. Burial will be in Cress Hill Cemetery in Hillsboro. Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Shipman was born July 18, 1923, in Avena, the daughter of Thomas Richard and Lydia Catherine (Eveland) Hankins. She married Hubert Leon Shipman on Aug. 30, 1941, in St. Charles, MO, and he preceded her in death on April 8, 1979.

She was a salesperson at Seltzer Shoe Store, Sherman's Clothing, Radcliff's, Bricker's and Sterling and Major's.  An Avon representative, she was also a caregiver for people in their homes.

During her lifetime, she lived in Avena, Brownstown, Harvel, Taylor Springs, Maroa and Hillsboro. She was a member of the Full Gospel Church in Schram City, Jolly Grandmother's Club and Senior Citizens of Taylor Springs. She was also a member of the President's Club with Avon Co. and attended Southside Baptist Church in Litchfield.

She is survived by one daughter, Helen Faye (husband James) Bergman of Waltonville; daughter-in-law, Nancy Shipman of Hillsboro; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 23 great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Mildred Jett of Litchfield, Elizabeth Doworsack of Litchfield, Genieve Woods of St. Jacob, Thomas Richard Hankins of Harristown, Clow Jo Osborn of Hillsboro and Howard Wayne Hankins of Granite City.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Charlotte Kay Shipman at three days old and one son, Marion "Lee" Shipman on June 23, 1997; great-granddaughter, Christina Watson; great-great-grandson, Duane Watson; and siblings, Mary Hassebrock, Leonard "Bud" Hankins and Joseph Alfred Hankins.
