Running Clock Number Two For Lady Redskins

On Monday, Jan. 6, the Nokomis Lady Redskins traveled to Brownstown and battled the Lady Bombers to finish up their winter break.

The plan for the Redskins was to bounce back from a bad loss against the Pana Panthers. They wanted to get back on the right track and in order to do so, they needed to come out with intensity and aggressiveness against the Bombers.

As the game started and the Redskins captured the ball, it was made obvious by Brownstown that it was not going to be an easy game for the Lady Redskins.

It was difficult for the Skins to find openings on offense as the defense seemed to be everywhere they looked. With difficulty, the Skins were able to score only two baskets in the first quarter, making it 9-4 going into the second quarter.

During the second quarter, the Bombers picked up the pace. The Lady Bombers caused the Lady Redskins to turn the ball over which resulted in wide open, break-away layups for home team.

The Bombers pace was not matched by the Redskins as Brownstown took the lead and ran with it. The Redskins were outscored by the Bombers by ten, making it 25 to 10 heading into the locker room at half time.

With hanging heads and little to no confidence, the Lady Redskins let Brownstown get any shot they wanted in the third quarter.

Despite the Nokomis guards knocking down some shots and it being the highest scoring quarter for the Skins, the Bombers still outscored them in the third quarter, making it 44-22 heading into the final eight minutes of the game.

As the clock ticked away, it was obvious that Brownstown was going to walk away with the win as it was now a running clock.

Scoring only two more points in the fourth quarter, the Lady Redskins were defeated by Brownstown 61-24.

Despite foul trouble, Audrey Sabol lead the team with 13 points. The Lady Redskins will travel to Alton to face another tough team, the Marquette Explorers, on Thursday, Jan. 9.
