Russell Wayne Rhoades, 88, of Hillsboro, passed away on July 7, 2023, at Montgomery County Nursing and Rehab.

Visitation will be held Sunday, July 16, at 12 p.m. at Hough and Sons Funeral Home in Hillsboro, followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Stefan Munker officiating. A private burial will be held at a later date.

He was born on February 14, 1935, in Nokomis to his parents Willie and Nellie Rhoades. He married Geraldine Hoffstetter on August 2, 1959, and together they had three children.

He served in the U.S. Army working on aircrafts during the Korean War for the Air Section. After he fixed the aircrafts, he would then have to take them on test flights. Upon returning home, he co-owned and operated Paris Frozen Foods in Hillsboro. He also spent 25 years on the Schram City Village Board, was a member of the Hillsboro School Board, a part of Jaycees, a member of the VFW and American Legion as well as St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hillsboro.

Mr. Rhoades is survived by his wife Gerry; children,Wayne Rhoades of Nokomis, son in law Lester Hamlin of Nokomis, Karen (Don) Cornell of Belleville as well as five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Patty Hamlin and sister Loeva Rhoades Hopper.
